Home gym under $2,000, short answer: with about $2,000 you can buy a complete barbell gym that you will not need to replace: a REP PR-1100 power rack, a Synergee Games Olympic bar, a 260 lb CAP bumper plate set, a REP AB-3000 2.0 adjustable bench, two 4 x 6 ft rubber mats and a pair of BowFlex SelectTech 552 dumbbells. At typical prices that whole list lands at roughly $1,650 to $2,250 (approximate), and it covers squats, bench, deadlifts, presses, pull-ups and every dumbbell move.

Safe pick

PR-1100 + Synergee bar + CAP bumpers + AB-3000 bench: the core four, roughly $1,100 to $1,400 (approximate), then add mats and dumbbells.

Ceiling under 7 ft? Swap in the Titan T-2 (71 in). Want the best bar instead? The Titan Series 20 kg bar, if the budget allows.

This is the step up from our home gym under $1,000 build. That one buys a rack, a bar and plates; this one adds the bench, the dumbbells and a proper rubber floor, so nothing is missing on day one. Every item below is one we already compare and rank in a dedicated Strong Saga guide, with a buy button for each piece. Updated October 2026.

Prices on this page are rough budget ranges, approximate only, based on maker list prices and typical retailer prices seen in October 2026. They are not current deals and they change often; the Amazon button shows today’s price.

Rough total: about $1,650 to $2,250 (approximate). At the low end of each range you finish well under $2,000. If prices run high, the easiest trims are one rubber mat instead of two, or a cheaper dumbbell pair from our adjustable dumbbell ranking. Budget an extra $30 to $60 (approximate) for collars and a pair of small change plates, since the bumper set has no 2.5 or 5 lb plates.

The parts, one by one

Rack: REP Fitness PR-1100 Power Rack

REP lists the PR-1100 at 85 inches tall, 58.1 by 48.5 inches on the floor, with 2×2 inch 14-gauge steel, a 700 lb rackable capacity and a 44 x 24 inch working area. It ships with extended safeties, plastic-lined J-cups and a multi-grip pull-up bar, so the rack doubles as your pull-up station. Low ceiling? The Titan T-2 is 71 inches tall; we put the two head to head in REP PR-1100 vs Titan T-2.

Bar: Synergee Games Olympic Barbell (20 kg)

The bar is the piece you touch on every rep. The Synergee Games bar is rated at 190,000 PSI and 1,500 lb, spins on needle bearings and has a rust-resistant Cerakote finish. If you would rather spend more here, our Olympic barbell comparison names the Titan Series 20 kg bushing bar as the do-everything upgrade.

Plates: CAP Economy Olympic Bumper Plate Set, 260 lb

Five pairs of bumpers with steel hubs, all the same diameter, so the bar sits at the right height for deadlifts with any load. With the 20 kg bar you can load a little over 300 lb, which covers most lifters for a year or more. Bumpers protect a concrete floor and run quieter than iron. See bumper plates vs iron plates if you are unsure.

Bench: REP AB-3000 2.0 FID Adjustable Bench

Flat, incline and decline in one bench, rated at 1,000 lb, with a 17.1 inch flat height that suits bench pressing inside the rack. It is the bench we rank first in our adjustable bench guide.

Flooring: two IncStores 4 x 6 ft rubber mats

Two 4 x 6 ft mats make an 8 x 6 ft floor, enough to cover the rack’s footprint and the spot where you deadlift. Rubber protects the slab and the plates and stops the rack sliding. Our home gym flooring guide explains thickness and cheaper in-store stall mats.

Dumbbells: BowFlex SelectTech 552 Results Series

One compact pair from 5 to 52.5 lb covers rows, curls, raises, lunges and warm-ups without a wall of fixed dumbbells. If you expect to pass 50 lb, read Bowflex vs PowerBlock before you buy.

Space you need

Plan for about 8 x 10 ft of floor: the rack takes roughly 5 x 4 ft, you need room behind it to load plates and walk out, and the bench has to slide in and out. For height, the PR-1100 needs about 7 ft 2 in of ceiling; below that, swap to the 71 inch Titan T-2 and use a wall-mounted pull-up bar if you want pull-ups.

What to buy first

If you cannot buy it all at once, start with the bar and plates (you can deadlift, row and press on day one), then the rack, then the bench, then the mats and dumbbells. Want cardio too? Our best cardio machine guide compares a treadmill, rower and bike.

Frequently asked questions

Can you build a good home gym for $2,000?

Yes. Around $2,000 buys a power rack with safeties, an Olympic bar, about 260 lb of bumper plates, an adjustable bench, rubber flooring and a pair of adjustable dumbbells. Our list lands at roughly $1,650 to $2,250 at typical prices (approximate).

What equipment should a $2,000 home gym have?

A power rack, an Olympic barbell, plates, an adjustable bench, rubber flooring and adjustable dumbbells. That covers squats, bench press, deadlifts, overhead press, pull-ups and dumbbell accessory work.

Is a power rack or an all-in-one machine better for $2,000?

For strength, a power rack with a barbell gives more load for the money and no subscription. An all-in-one cable machine is better if you want guided cable work; see our cable machine guide.

How much space does a $2,000 home gym need?

Plan for about 8 x 10 ft of floor and about 7 ft 2 in of ceiling for the REP PR-1100. Under 7 ft, swap to the 71 inch Titan T-2.

Should I buy bumper plates or iron plates?

Bumpers if you train on concrete, want to drop the bar or need quieter lifting; iron if you want thinner plates and lower cost per pound. Our bumper vs iron guide breaks it down.

Are these prices current deals?

No. The prices on this page are rough, approximate budget ranges, not live deals. Use the Amazon buttons to see the current price of each item.
